Language...
We took a break from our foam letters these past two weeks, but we continued to do several language activities. Smiley has started putting some simple letters together, particularly -at. So, I wrote down a couple of words for him that end in -at. One step closer to reading :)

We played with those letter cards to work on beginning sounds. Smiley searched for the beginning letter of several pictures...

We colored a Gg worksheet.

We used this "I spy" book to found different things hidden on a page.

Math Reasoning...

We worked on the concept "in the middle". He knew what this meant, so this was more of a review...

We then worked on "on the bottom", which was a new concept for him. He grasped it really quickly, especially when I explained that it is similar to "down".

We counted out his raisins with the corresponding numbers... (and yes, I really need to vacuum his carpet. Just trying to keep things real ;-) ).

We lined up the numbers 0-20.

Fine Motor Skills...

We did a lot of fine motor activities these past couple of weeks, such as building towers...

We're still working on our cutting skills. It's still a little difficult for Smiley to hold his scissors the correct way.

Lots and lots of time was spent playing with Playdough...

I got out some pasta, a bottle and a funnel and Smiley was in heaven :)

Smiley thought it was hilarious to sit in his sister's exersaucer...

In honor of spring we grew a couple of sponge animals.... a worm and a butterfly.

ABCs...
This week, we covered the letter F. We read many books about fish, frogs, and fox.

We did a letter F worksheet, where Smiley colored all the items that begin with the letter F.

Smiley really likes the rainbow fish books, so I wanted to focus many of our F activities on the books by Marcus Pfister.

Smiley colored a couple of rainbow fish pictures that I found on the web...

For our foam letter activity, I really wanted to incorporate our rainbow fish theme. I cut out a letter F, a tail, three fins, a head and a mouth.

and lots of scales...

Smiley then glued the scales on the letter F and we attached fins, tail, head and mouth. In the end, we colored some of the scales with a glittery silver glue to make it look like the rainbow fish :) Smiley loved this craft, especially gluing on the scales and decorating the fish with the glittery glue...

If you don't add scales and make the F in a different color from the tail, fins and head, the letter F will stand out much better. Smiley already knows the alphabet though, so I didn't worry too much about the F not standing out as much...
